FC Schalke 04's Nikola Katic is nominated for the Fair-Play-Award of the season. The defender recognized an important situation in the game against Arminia Bielefeld and provided important first aid. The scene occurred on the 8th matchday in the 71st minute. After a collision with Schalke's goalkeeper Loris Karius, Bielefeld's striker Joel Grodowski remained unconscious in the penalty area. Katic immediately recognized the situation, rushed to his opponent, and brought him into a stable side position before the medical staff arrived. With his quick reaction, the 29-year-old provided important first aid and possibly prevented more serious consequences. The action received great recognition immediately after the game. Arminia Bielefeld thanked the Schalke defender in a club statement and explained: „For this quick and correct reaction, we express our sincere thanks and respect.“ The story had a positive ending for Grodowski as well. A week later, the striker was back on the pitch and even scored a goal and provided an assist against SC Paderborn. Katic is now one of the six candidates for the Fair-Play-Award of the season. Alongside the Schalker, Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi, Fortuna Düsseldorf's goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier, and Augsburg's striker Michael Gregoritsch are also nominated. In addition, the players of FSV Mainz 05 and RB Leipzig were nominated for their sporting behavior in special situations. The winner will be decided by a three-part voting. Fans can still vote in the official Bundesliga app until Sunday at 23:59 and make up 40 percent of the overall result. The remaining votes fall to 30 percent each for the clubs and an expert jury, which also includes former Bundesliga professionals.
