In the 2023/2024 season, Joel Imasuen made his Bundesliga debut with Werder Bremen, but failed to secure a permanent spot in the team. After his contract ended at the Weser, the American striker joined FC Schalke 04, where he will play for the U23 in the Regionalliga West. On Tuesday, the Königsblauen officially confirmed the signing of Joel Imasuen. "Joel has shown in the past that he can score many goals. He can be integrated into the strike force due to his physical abilities and bring an additional strength with his speed", commented Schalke's U23 coach Jakob Fimpel on the transfer. Imasuen suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the spring of 2025, which kept him out of action for about ten months. After his comeback, the striker, who was trained at Hertha BSC, scored two goals in seven appearances for Werder Bremen's Regionalliga selection. ## FC Schalke 04 wants to repeat the successes of the previous season Recently, Schalke released young defender Felix Meyer from Alemannia Aachen to the U23. In the 2025/2026 season, the native Leipzig player had played 18 third-division matches, now it's one level lower. "He will not only help us on the pitch, but also take on a significant role as a leader. Felix has a good dynamic, can defend intensively and has strong qualities in playing with the ball", praised Fimpel the 23-year-old. The second team of the Knappen finished the previous season as third, three points and two places ahead of the arch-rival Borussia Dortmund. In the upcoming season, the Schalker talents want to repeat their successes and again be part of the leading group. The personnel plans are not yet completed, changes are still to be made in several team sections.
